Top Needs for 2008/2009
- CCES Press Editor: This position involves planning what will be in each newsletter issue; sending out e-mail notices/reminders of deadlines to the teacher and parent listservs and the monthly columnists (staff/PTA); editing copy and submissions; writing headlines; finding clip art and laying out the newsletter. The job can be done completely from home and takes about 3 to 5 hours each month. A great way to be in touch with our community as you will have lots of contact with parents and teachers!
- CCES Directory : This is an important job for someone who can devote a lot of time and energy all in one big block of time. The position requires a lot of attention to detail, familiarity with Excel and Word, strong editing and proofreading skills, and coordination and dependence on input from others for the calendar, the handbook, ads, etc. The time commitment is big -- 60 plus hours -- we will not lie. But you will be making one of the most important parent contributions to the school. The bulk of the work occurs over a four-week period, from mid-October to mid-November. Some of the work can be done in advance, such as the calendar updates, the staff listings, the PTA listings, and changes to the handbook. The good news is that once the handbook is done, the work is over for the year.
- Community Service Club: Coordinate one of our most popular after school clubs. Inspire and lead our next generation of responsible citizens! You choose the projects and work closely with the kids. This would be a great position to share with other parent volunteers. The club meets monthly (Tues., Wed. or Thurs.) for one hour.
- Grade Level Representatives: Work with the [ ] PTA board and attend monthly meetings. Interview grade level teachers to see what's on the horizon. Write up any pertinent information and include it in our monthly newsletter (CCES Press) and on the new web site. Also serve as contact for grade level parent's inquiries.
- Koi Pond Manager: We have a koi pond but no oversight. Do we keep the koi? Do we switch to a lower maintenance fish/pond? If this issue matters to you, please help! The pond needs cleaning each Spring and other ongoing maintenance. If it is important to you, save the fish, now is your chance! (If you don't act now, don't complain later!) Maintain the koi pond in the inner courtyard. Or, the garden that it becomes. Hurry!
- METS advocate for Summer Programs: Our METS kids (children with a two year or more interruption in their education) are currently required to un-enroll from CCES at the end of the school year and re-enroll in their local school just so that they can have access to local summer school. We think this is a travesty. Come September, the process repeats itself. Summer school shouldn't be this hard, especially for the students most in need of continual uninterrupted education. Help us advocate for a change to the system.
